RBI has vide its notification dated 19th October 2011 allowed opening of Foreign currency (non resident) bank account in any permitted freely convertible currency. Hitherto it was allowed only in pound sterling, US dollar, japanese yen, australian dollar and canadian dollar. That is one measure of liberalisation, albeit very late in its coming.
